San Antonio, since 1954

Five generations of the same family have been welding this city's iron.

Aztec Fence & Ornamental Iron builds fence, gates and ornamental metalwork out of a shop on Guadalupe Street. The scrollwork in our mark is the scrollwork we make.

On Guadalupe Street

A shop old enough that the fifth generation is already running it.

Nothing below is a marketing number. 1954 is the year the doors opened, five generations is who has run it since, and the combined experience figure is the crew's own count.

How a gate actually gets made

Drawn, cut, welded, hung.

Most fence companies order a gate in. We make it. That is the whole difference between this shop and the number you found above us in the search results, and it is why the catalogue runs all the way out to guardrail and handrail and one-off metalwork.

Drawing

It starts as a sketch, not a catalogue number

Design and planning happen before a single length of steel is cut. A driveway gate has to answer to the slope of the drive, the swing of the leaf, the width of a delivery truck and whatever the property already looks like. We work that out with you first, then draw it.

Material

The metal is chosen for the job, not for the invoice

Aluminum, steel, stainless, galvanized. Cedar, cypress, pine, redwood or spruce when the job calls for wood. Material selection is its own step because the wrong choice does not fail on install day, it fails four summers later.

Fabrication

Cut, welded and finished on Guadalupe Street

Certified welders and fabricators, over 200 years of combined experience across the crew, and a shop floor that has been running since 1954. Prototyping and quality control are part of the process, not something bolted on at the end.

Install

Assembly, installation, and the permits

We obtain the building permits for our own projects, so that is not paperwork you have to chase. Then the crew sets posts, hangs the leaf, wires the operator if there is one, and comes back seasonally to service the access control.

Twelve lines out of one shop

What we install, and what we make.

The split matters more than the list does. One half of this shop goes out to your property with post-hole diggers. The other half never leaves the building until the thing it built is finished.

The vineyard gate

Grapevine, grape clusters, and two letters that belong to one family.

Every leaf and every tendril in those upper panels was drawn, cut and welded in the shop. The monogram in the middle is the owner's. You cannot buy this gate. It is the reason the word fabrication sits in our name next to the word fence.

What customers wrote

They tend to name Larry, and then the metal.

We are very happy with the iron rails we purchased and had custom fabricated from Aztec Fence and Ornamental Iron. We needed railing for a very large covered back porch, a front porch and two sets of stairs. Larry was knowledgeable, professional, responsive and just a wonderful person to guide us through this process from start to finish! The rails themselves are not only beautiful but they're so well made. We highly recommend Larry and his team for your fencing or railing needs but for us specifically, the custom rail fabrication!

Larry and co re built our entire chain link fence in less than a day. He and his crew came out ahead of schedule and provided a quality black vinyl link fence that really improved our curbside appeal. He was knowledgeable and friends and his team was efficient and hard working.

Seventy-one years, one address, one family.

The shop opened on Guadalupe Street in 1954 and has not moved. The fifth generation is running it now, and the crew between them has been at this for more than two hundred years put together. We work the greater San Antonio area, out through Boerne, Kerrville, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Cotulla, and we take project work as far as Laredo, Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, Midland, Odessa and El Paso.

Before you call

The questions we get most.

Since 1954. Five generations of the same family have run the shop, and between the crew there is more than 200 years of combined experience in fence, gates and ornamental ironwork.

We make it. The shop on Guadalupe Street has its own fabrication floor with certified welders and fabricators, so a custom gate is drawn, cut, welded and finished here before it ever reaches your driveway.

Yes. We obtain the necessary building permits for our own projects, so the paperwork is not something you have to chase.

Yes, estimates are free. Call (210) 433-8932 or send us the details and we will come and look at the property.

We do. Alongside the greater San Antonio area we work in Boerne, Kerrville, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Cotulla, Artesia Wells and South Plains, and we take projects as far out as Laredo, Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, Midland, Odessa and El Paso.

Senior, military and first responder discounts are available. Ask when you call and we will apply it to the estimate.

Se habla español. The shop and the crews work in English and Spanish, so you can call in either.

A good deal. Custom metal fabrication, stair and handrails, metal beam guardrails, mason columns and walls, carports, electrostatic painting and general construction all come out of the same shop.

Tell us what the property needs.

Call the shop between seven and four, Monday to Friday, and you will get somebody who has been doing this a long time. Estimates are free, we pull the permits ourselves, and se habla español.
